Intel Education Day
Intel Education Day of the ISEA2012 conference, on Sunday, September 23, 2012, offers a day of educational presentations, teacher training and youth activities focused on STEM Education. The main programs of the conference will take place in Downtown Albuquerque at indoor venues such as the KiMo Theatre, 516 ARTS, Albuquerque Public Library Main Branch, Re-Source, The Box and other small spaces to be announced.
Downtown Block Party
516 ARTS and Creative Albuquerque present the Downtown Block Party as part of Intel Education Day. The entire general public is invited to this free, outdoor celebration, which features artworks focusing on the conference sub-theme of Transportation: “Dynamobilities”. The programs include hands-on interactive DIY demos, performances, projections, illuminated projects and kinetic sculptures along Central Avenue where people can see the STEM + Arts innovations and participate in hands-on activities. Collaborators on this event include Downtown Action Team and the Downtown Arts & Culture District.
Visiting Artists Teaching Program
The ISEA2012 Visiting Artists Teaching Program is developed in partnership with Explora, New Mexico Highlands University, Taos Academy, The Harwood Art Center and the National Hispanic Cultural Center. It will bring a variety of adventurous STEM + Art workshops to Albuquerque and Taos, which will culminate in presentations during Intel Education Day of the conference, where students and teachers will have a chance to investigate and then share some of the newest technologies in artmaking.
ISEA2012 STEMArts competition Design your Future
Design Your Future is a statewide competition for middle and high school students, offering great prizes and the opportunity for young people to be a part of this exciting international event. Encouraging students to imagine, daydream and ponder ideas for the future is the goal of this competition. Students are being asked to visualize their ideas for the future by exploring the conference themes of ISEA2012 such as Machine Wilderness, Transportation, the Cosmos and Wildlife, among others. The students' images will be collaged to form a web-based digital art piece that will be presented at the ISEA2012 conference. Teachers can download a lesson plan that provides activity suggestions, resources and tips to engage students. Great prizes will be awarded and teachers can win free passes to Intel Education Day.
