Discover the Art of Code: Join Our Free Google Code Next Summer Camp at UNM Taos HIVE!

STEMarts Lab is thrilled to announce our first Google Code Next Summer Camp, a free creative coding experience for high school students! Happening July 16–19, 2025 from 11AM–4PM at the UNM Taos HIVE, this four-day camp invites young creators to explore the world of computer science through the lens of art, animation, and generative design.

This summer intensive is part of STEMarts Lab’s new partnership with Google Code Next, an initiative designed to make computer science education more accessible and inspiring for the next generation of creative thinkers.

What to Expect
In this immersive, hands-on workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of programming using the creative coding language p5.js, a JavaScript library built for artists, designers, and curious minds. Led by 3D artist and programmer Ian Harrison with support from Digital Tech Assistant Bethany Rivera, the program blends code with creativity—think colorful visuals, interactive animations, and digital art that moves with your ideas.

Over the course of four days, students will:

  • Dive into core programming concepts like variables, loops, and interactivity
  • Design original animated sketches and generative art
  • Build confidence in a collaborative, inclusive learning environment
  • Receive a Google Code Next T-shirt and a Certificate of Completion from Google (for students who attend all sessions)
  • Get connected to future STEMarts internships and creative team opportunities

Why It Matters
In a time when coding skills open doors to innovation, we believe it’s equally important to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. This camp is more than just a class—it’s a launchpad for youth to imagine and shape their own futures in STEM and the arts.

And this is just the beginning. The summer camp kicks off year one of our three-year Google Code Next Affiliate programming in Northern New Mexico, with advanced courses planned for the future.
